TIETON, WA - John and Beryl Allen passed away January 5, 2004. John was born on October 11, 1920 on a homestead near Camas, WA to Rosa and James Allen. Beryl was born February 20, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN to Leah and Lester Bodine. They both moved to the Tieton area at an early age. John and Beryl married August 16, 1941 and together they had a son, Robert James and a daughter, Sharon Elizabeth. They were married for over 60 years. They were active in Campfire and Boy Scouts as leaders, Tieton Rifle Club, Tieton City government and Tieton Presbyterian Church. John worked a total of 35 years for Yakima Tieton Irrigation District as a ditch rider and Layman Lumber as a sawyer. Before his military service, John worked 5 years at Boeing as a pre-flight mechanic. Beryl was employed nearly 50 years, at Strand Apples, Inc., primarily as the office manager, and various other packing and sorting jobs. They are survived by their son Robert (Sally) of Seattle, daughter Sharon (Leon) of North Bend, OR; two grandchildren: Eric (Dana) and Sara (Larry); and four great-grandchildren: Michael, Tyler, Ashley and Jordan. John is also survived by 3 step-brothers: Mel, Jim and Byron Linse. John was drafted into the Army Air Corps in WWII and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. The family plans a graveside service to be followed by a memorial service for both Beryl and John on Friday, January 9, 2004, 1:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Tieton, WA. Remembrances can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the American Heart Association in care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
