Russell Berdine, 80, of Creston, died May 10, 2007, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. The Rev. Karen Garrison will officiate the service. Burial will be in Diagonal Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Afton United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category at: www.powersfh.com Russell Dewey Berdine, son of Pansy Amelia (Pierson) and Earl Dewey Berdine, was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Spring Valley, Minn. Russell attended high school in Council Bluffs, then joined the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he came to Shannon City to visit his folks and remained there. On Aug. 13, 1949, Russell married Donna Lee Ruckman in Afton. He was an over-the-road, coast-to-coast trucker for 28 years and moved to Diagonal in 1973, where he also farmed. After he quit trucking, he became branch manager of First State Bank in Shannon City in January 1978, where he served eight years, retiring due to poor health. In 1998, he moved to Creston. Russell and Donna spent winters in Arizona 20 years. Russell was a member of Shannon City Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 0395 of Diagonal and negotiating team with the Local Union No. 147. Survivors include his wife Donna Berdine of Creston; three daughters, Jacki (husband David) Gibbons of Murray, Jerri Kilpatrick (Curt Decker) of Thayer and Cindy (husband Eric) Hill of Afton; two brothers, James (wife Bessie) Berdine of Shannon City and Earl (wife Jackie) Berdine of Bella Vista, Ark.; sister Juanita Bublitz of Nicollet, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, son Terry in 1986 and brother Robert in infancy.
