Vincent C. Berdine enlisted 7 Dec 1934 in the U.S. Navy in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. He was killed in the crash of an American Airlines plane 46 miles east of San Diego. At the time of his death he held the rank of Chief Machinists Mate. See The San Diego Union of 5 March 1946 for details of this crash. In 1940, Viola Berdine lived with her father Robert Taylor in San Diego.
