In 1900-1910, Lafayette Bodine was living in Richland Township, Shelby County, Illinois engaged as a milk hauler. In 1900, he reported that in 20 years of marriage his wife had borne 10 children of whom 6 were then living and in 1910 reported that 6 of his children were then living. Upon the marriage of his daughter Lucy in May 1912, the newspaper announcement reported him as "the late Lafayette Bodine." In Jan 1920, Hannah Bodine, age 67, and now a widow, lived with her daughter Carrie and 4-year old grandson Earl (identified as her son) in Richland Township. She was still living there in April 1930 when her household consisted of her 69-year old brother Marion Griffin, her grandson Earl Bodine, 14 and granddaughter, Betty Harris, 2 years and 11 months. Hannah (Griffin) Bodine was the daughter of James and Rachel (Furness) Griffin.

Lafayette A. Bodine died in the hospital for the insane Monday and was brought to this city Wednesday where the body was placed in the Lantz undertaking rooms. Mr. Bodine was 35 years old at the time of his death which was caused by maniac depression. He was born in Richland township and made his home there until a short time ago when he bought a farm near St. Elmo. It was here that his mind began to show signs of the ultimate end. He was the son of Richard Bodine and Elizabeth Bodine. The father died about one year ago and the mother died last June. He was the father of 10 children, six of whom survive. His wife is also living. The children are Ella Rawlings and Lucy Bodine of Shelbyville, Martha Bodine of Richland, and Lillie, Elsie and Carrie who make their home with their mother on the farm near St. Elmo. He also leaves four brothers and two sisters. The brothers are James of Strasburg, John of Richland, and Eli of Wheatland, Mo., Charles of Beecher City. The sisters are Lydia A. Sowers of Danville, and Dora Rawlings of Richlands. The body was accompanied from Anna to Shelbyville by the brother, John. Mr. Bodine has been a life long member of the Baptist church in which he took much interest and was during his health of great help.

Hannah S. Bodine, wife of Lafayette Bodine, was born 24 June 1859 in Belmont County, Ohio to James & Rachel (Furness) Griffin. She died 9 Feb 1931 in Strasburg, Shelby County and was buried in Richland Cemetery.

The obituary of Betty J. Harris Henson in the Decatur Herald & Review (Decatur, Ill.) of 19 Feb 2010, provides an excellent account of the family of her mother, Maggie Elsie Bodine Harris:
SHELBYVILLE - Betty J. Henson, 82, of Shelbyville, died at 7:16 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Shelby Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Antioch Cemetery, near Westervelt, IL. Family and friends will gather at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville at 1:00 p.m. Saturday before going to the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Humane Society. Betty was born on May 27, 1927 in Brownstown, Illinois the daughter of Melvin and Elsie Bodine Harris. After her mother's death in 1927, Betty lived with her grandmother, Hannah Bodine of Strasburg, IL for two years until her grandmother's death. Betty then joined her brothers, Danny and Forrest, and they were raised by their uncle and aunt, Eli and Martha Bodine Skidmore of Westervelt, IL along with their daughter, Eva Skidmore. Betty graduated from Westervelt High School in 1946. She was a cleaning lady at the Anna B. Millikin Home in Decatur and later for Grant Hospital in Chicago. She was married to Percy Henson briefly in 1955. Betty had no children, but loved her two cats, Tiger and Lilly. Betty was proud that she sang in the Five Thousand Voice Choir at Billy Graham's Heart of America Crusade that took place in 1967 in Kansas City, MO. She also treasured her chance meeting with Hank Williams, Sr. at a record store in 1949 in Peoria, IL, where she had stopped to check on the concert time for Hank's concert that she was going to attend. Surviving are her sisters, Beulah Lampe of Tremont, IL and Ruby Zick of Pekin, IL; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson of Shelbyville; many nieces and nephews including, Roberta Johnson of Shelbyville, Joan Foster and husband Keith of Wabash, IN, Lynda Johnson of Effingham and Willie Johnson of Findlay and fiancée Karen Voyles; many great nieces and nephews including, Amanda Foster of Washington, DC and Austin Foster of Muncie, IN; and great great twin nieces, Shae and Bryn of Indianapolis, IN.
