On 5 June 1917, John B. Bodine registered for the World War I draft in Monroe County, Michigan. He reported he was born 30 Oct 1888 in Raisinville, Monroe County, was single and employed as a machinist with the Gray Motor Company in Detroit. In 1930, John Bodine was living with his family in LaSalle Township, Monroe County working as a millwright in a paper mill. Muriel Esther James was the daughter of William James and Minnie McIntire.

SCOFIELD-John B. Bodine, 74, of 6139 Summit St. died early today in his home. He had been ill 18 months and seriously ill 10 days. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Liedel Funeral Home at Maybee. The Rev. Phillip Fisher will officiate, and burial will be in McIntire Cemetery at Monroe. Born Oct. 30, 1887, at Maybee, he was the son of Charles and Myra Bodine. He attended Maybee Public School. He married Muriel James of Monroe June 25, 1920, at Flat Rock with the Rev. Fred Clifford performing the ceremony. Mr. Bodine was a machinist at the River Rouge plant of the Ford Motor Co. until he retired because of ill health. He was a World War I veteran, serving as a mechanic in the medical department from July 21, 1918, until he was discharged Jan. 30, 1919. Mr. Bodine was a member of the Scofield Methodist Church. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Harold and Charles of Monroe and John of Maybee; two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Beulah) Sweet of Willis and Mrs. Harold (JoAnn) VanVleet of Maybee; two brothers, Curtis and Harry of Maybee; three sisters, Grace and Dot and Mrs. Rose Kellie of Maybee; 21 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Muriel J. Bodine, 87, of Monroe, a former Scofield resident and the first librarian in the Village of Maybee around 1938, died this morning in Mercy-Memorial Hospital. She had been ill two years. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday in the Liedel Funeral Home, Maybee, where services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Paul R. Crabtree of East Raisinville United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, will officiate. Cremation will follow, and interrment will be in McIntyre Cemetery. Born Jan 14, 1896, in Exeter Township, she was the daughter of William and Minnie (McIntire) James. She was married June 25, 1920, to John B. Bodine in Flat Rock. He died Dec. 9, 1961. Mrs. Bodine was a student at the former Licht School, Scofield School and Maybee Public School. She graduated in 1915 from Monroe High School and attended Michigan Normal School in Ypsalinti, now Eastern Michigan University. She began her teaching career at the former McIntire School on Heiss Rd. in 1920. The last place she taught was at Scofield School in 1952. She was an avid card and letter writer, sending up to 2,000 cards and letters in a single year to persons in the United States, Germany, the Philippines, Australia, Panama, New Zealand and Japan, to name a few. A former president of the Extension Club of Exeter Township, she also was a former member of the Scofield Grange; the auxiliary to Maybee Post 4361, Veterans of froeign Wars; Scofield Methodist Church, where she served as president of its WSCS and taught Sunday School for 48 years, and Monroe Chapter 226, Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of Monroe and Maybee Senior Citizens and the Exeter and Ash Farmers Club. Surviving are 2 sons, John W. of Maybee and Charles A. of Newport; 2 daughters, Mrs. Carl (Beulah) Sweet and Mrs. JoAnn Francisco, both of Monroe; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, a sister and two grandsons. Memorials may be made to the East Raisinville Methodist Church.
