MICHIGAN CITY - Dorothy M. Bodine, 86, of Michigan City, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011, at The Arbors at 3:35 p.m. where she had been residing for the past seven years. Private family services will be held. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Dorothy was born March 12, 1925 in Niles, Michigan to the late Clem and Mable (Blessing) Bodine. Surviving are three nieces: Sue (Lloyd) Wood, Norma (Dave) Nipple and Cindy (Brad) Egelske; one nephew: Robert (Tenna) Bodine; eight great nieces and nephews; and six great-great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two brothers: Kenneth and Wallace Bodine. Dorothy retired from Jaymar Ruby in 1988 as a key punch operator after 43 years of service. Dorothy was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was known as "Dodo" to her family all her life and as "Dottie" to her many friends. Dorothy was an avid bowler for many years and was a very loving aunt. She had a passion for dogs, especially Shadow and was known to take in a stray or two at times. She always was there for her family in any time of need. She will be missed by all. The family would like to thank The Arbors staff for the many years of compassionate care they provided Dorothy and Harbor Light Hospice for being there in our trying times. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michiana Humane Society or La Porte County Animal Shelter.
