Subject: Curtis Elbert Bodine family
Hello, my name is Susan Lorraine "Brown" Deal. My mother is Nan "Bodine" Brown. I have been researching my family genealogy and came across your web site, hosted by Roots Web. The information you have pertaining to this line of the family is not completely accurate and I would like to offer my assistance. The first thing is, Curis was born in 1894. He died on Dec 13, 1975. His wife, Annie Johnson, was born August 4, 1892 and died on Jan 8, 1970. Her parents were William Harrison "Hoss" Johnson and Rebecca Ann Davidson. Next, Odesa is still alive. She was born Dec 7, 1914 and was married to Frank Powers. She did not die before 2004. She is alive and kicking in Manchester, Tennessee with all of her faculties. She is quite interesting to listen to. She is known lovingly as Odes. Nova Jean was always called Novie and Annette was always called Tain. Nova Jean and Odesa are and were very religious women. Annette was born Nov 6, 1932. She died Nov 16, 2003 in
Manchester, Tennessee. She was married to a man, last name Madden... Clarence's wife was actually named Mary Jo, not Jane. William Tell, was the first born child. He died as an infant in 1911 at 2 months old. My mother told me that when he was born, her mother and father simply did not know how to care for him, since they were very young as well. The home where they lived was not well made and it often got very cold during winter months. Though, no one knows the precise reason for the infants death, it has been speculated that he may have died of SIDS. As far as my own mother, She does not have a middle name at all. She was born March 24, 1935 in Guntersville, Al. She is still alive and married Dennis A. Brown from Louisville, KY. He was born Feb, 14, 1930 and is also still alve. They have 6 girls.
Though all Bodine children were born in the Guntersville/Marshall Co. area, the younger children were raised in Tennessee. Annie, died in Summitville, Tennesse. After her death, about a year, Curtis returned to the Guntersville area where he lived out the rest of his life, until his death in 1975. He died 3 months before my birth.
Some extra information: Curtis' mother was called Monanny by the grandchildren. She was a widow when she married Henry Washington Bodine. The Bodine family owned some 400 acres of land in the Guntersville area and sold it for a little over $100 to the TVA in order for them to complete the Guntersville Lake project. They had been a wealthy family until this time...
I hope this information is helpful to you.
