Obituary, Staten Island Advance of 8 Jan 2013.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Longtime West Brighton resident Anne Bodine, 94, an active member of the community who volunteered with a number of local organizations, died Monday in Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville. Born Anne Armour in Manhattan, she moved to New Brighton almost a year after her birth. It was there that her father, Harry, opened the former Staten Island Window Shade and Awning Company, which he owned from 1919 until his death in 1944. A graduate of Curtis High School, Mrs. Bodine briefly attended New York University. In 1942, she met Ephraim Bodine, a communications specialist in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. The two wed and Mrs. Bodine accompanied him to the Biggs P38 Fighter Field in El Paso, Texas. Three years later, in 1945, the couple returned to Staten Island, settling in West Brighton. It was then Mrs. Bodine began her philanthropic endeavors by volunteering at the former Halloran General Hospital in Willowbrook. In 1946, the couple opened Bodine Auto Supply Company, which they operated for nearly 35 years, until 1979. However, Mrs. Bodine's greatest pleasure came from serving the community. For 20 years, she was a member of the Board of Trustees at the former St. Vincent's Medical Center, West Brighton, where she founded the Bell Society and organized several charity balls. In 1990, she earned the hospital's Distinguished Service Award, and in 1998 she was the recipient of its Outstanding Service Award for volunteering a total of 15,500 hours. Mrs. Bodine also served on the board of trustees for the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences. She helped organize fundraisers for the Visiting Nurse Association of Staten Island, as well as the Friends of the College of the Staten Island. She was a member of the Rebecca Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Staten Island Rotary Club, the Staten Island YMCA and United Way of Staten Island. In honor of her service and dedication to these organizations, Mrs. Bodine received several awards, including the College of Staten Island Dolphin Award, in 1982; the Rotary's Paul Harris Fellow Award, in 1990; the Trustee Award of the United Hospital Fund of Greater New York, in 1991, and the Institute of Arts and Sciences' Leng and Davis Award, in 1996. The YMCA and the Community Agency for Senior Citizens (CASC) also acknowledged Mrs. Bodine for her dedication to the community. When she wasn't organizing a fundraiser, or enjoying the company of her friends and family, Mrs. Bodine could be found at the Metropolitan Opera and the American Ballet at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, as well as at the Richmond County Country Club, Dongan Hills. Ephraim, her husband of 39 years, died in 1981. Surviving Mrs. Bodine is her daughter, Lucy Cirincione. The funeral will be tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the Meislohn-Silvie Funeral Home, Port Richmond. Burial will follow in Baron Hirsch Cemetery, Graniteville.
