From Ronny Bodine:

In 1850, Richard Bodine was living in Berkeley County, Virginia employed as a constable. He was apparently widowed and his household included his 2nd wife, Mary, 19, his son, Thomas, 10 and his mother, Catherine, 59. In 1860, the family lived in Berkeley County, but now Richard worked as a hotel keeper, an occupation that continued through 1870 by which time Richard Bodine reported the value of real estate in Hedgesville at $15,500. By June 1880, Mary Bodine was widowed, living in Hedgesville with her younger children.
