Juanita (Hughes) Proffitt, 89, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2009. She was born July 21, 1919 in Ferndale, WA to Jessie and John Bodine. She was the 5th child of a total of 8 children. Her childhood was spent living on a farm in the Nooksack area and then moved to a ranch in Blaine, WA. She also attended high school for 4 years in Stevensville, MT but returned to the Lynden, WA area. There she met and married Wilmer S. Hughes (Buck) on July 24, 1936. Their family made several more moves (Cle Elum/Puyallup) before settling on a 40-acre farm in the Lakewood (Arlington) area where they raised their 3 children: Richard, Janet and Pat. They produced first strawberries and then blueberries for a number of years. She particularly loved her huge flower garden which was beautiful. Juanita also worked at Scott Paper in Everett for a few years. Then they sold the farm and bought a house in Arlington area. Here they enjoyed gardening and traveling in their motor home. After Buck's death June 30, 1980, she later met and married Hartzel Proffitt on September 19, 1981. They enjoyed 24 years together. After Hartzel's passing she moved to Olympic Place Retirement community in Arlington, WA. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Sesby. Juanita leaves behind a sister, Dorothy Kesselring of La Conner, WA, son, Richard and his wife Nancy Hughes (Arlington, WA), daughter, Janet Hughes (Kirkland, WA), eight grandchildren: Tim and wife Shellie Hughes (Boise, ID), Ted and wife Ann Hughes (Stanwood, WA), Frank Cricchio (Spokane, WA), Kevin Cricchio (Lynnwood, WA), Michelle and husband Rick Love (Arlington, WA), Cherrie and husband Mark Olson (Arlington, WA), Darren and wife Sherri Sesby (Conway, WA), and Brent Sesby (Arlington, WA) as well as many nieces and nephews and great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM, April 11, 2009 at "A Country Location", located at 333 - 156th Street, NE, Arlington, Washington 98223. The family would like to express their thanks of the Olympic Place Retirement and Regency Care Center in Arlington, WA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of your choice.
