Subject: Kate Bodine
Hello Dave,
I was born in New Jersey with a middle name of Bodine and am trying to find out more about Kate Bodine, born in London of Irish parents in 1858 who married my gt. grandfather Joseph Bodine c.1870. They lived in Philadelphia and are in the 1880 Census, and lived on Elfreth's Alley there. Your website says her maiden name was Murry, daughter of Patrick... While I was thrilled to find a last name for Kate, (Catherine) I don't think this works as she was in Philadelphia in 1880, have born of my grandmother there in 1875 etc. Can you help with this dilemma?
Many thanks,
Pamela Bodine Compton Ware

Dave,
Thank you for your reply. On further search, I realize the Illinois information is incorrect although highly coincidental.
My informaton is from the 1880 Census, Philadelphia, Pa. where my great grandparents lived for a time. Kate was 22, keeping house, wife of Joseph Bodine 26. And it states she was born in London, her parents born in Ireland, but not last name for them . There were 4 children, Lydia, my grandmother 1875, Anna 3, Lizzzie 1, (son Joseph Jr. not yet born, 1884)
From the free pages of Ancestry.com comes the information Joseph Bodine Sr.'s wife was Catherine Murray, d/o John and Ann Murray, born 1860. died in 1895 and is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Camden, N.J. Then, checking on FamilySearch.org for Catherine, I found an 1860 birth registration (Reg. quarter Jan. Feb. March), for Kensington, London for Catherine Ann Murray vol. 1A,page 121, line number 54. This really does seem to fit. Of course, I too would like to know more about her parents but looking for John Murray in Ireland is like looking for the needle in the haystack.
[Note from Dave Bodine: The 1860 birth registration has not yet been checked for the names of this Catherine Ann Murray's parents. So we cannot say if that Catherine Murray is the same as this Catherine Murray. It is something to check for the future.]
Your website is fascinating.
Thanks for your help.

From Ronny Bodine:
She was Lydia Bodine, age 3, in 1880. Roscoe and Lydia Compton were living 1900 in Pennsauken, Camden County where Roscoe worked as a plumber. In 10 years of marriage, Lydia had borne 2 children, both then living. The family was living in Merchantville, Camden County in 1910 where Roscoe now owned his own plumbing business. Lydia was now recorded as Lillie E., having now borne 4 children in 20 years of marriage. In 1920, Lilian E. Compton was head of the family, though indicating she was still married. Roscoe was back in 1930 and living with Lily E. in Haddonfield, Camden County, employed as a building janitor and in 1940, now widowed, lived in Haddonfield with his daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and William Cumming.
