Notes for: Sarah (Sally) Bodine
By 1851, she was maybe living in Livingston Co., NY. I had her husband's name as James Ammerman, but the will of Sarah's father gives his name as Thomas Ammerman.
From Ronny Bodine (Dec. 23, 2021):
In the 1810 census, she was the one daughter in age group 10-15 (born 1795-1800), but is not present in 1820, by which time she was likely married.
James Amerman served during the War of 1812 from 16 July 1812 to 16 Nov 1812 as a Private in Capt. Daniel Curtis' Company, New York Militia and from 1 Jan 1813 to 24 May 1813 in Lieutenant P. W. Hewitt's Company, New York Militia. He applied for a pension and was granted bounty land. His application papers note he married his wife Sally Bodine on 22 March 1816 in Sempronius, New York.
In the 1836 will of her father, Sarah is named as Sally, wife of James Ammerman and in the 1851 probate of his estate she is named as a surviving child, Sally of Livingston County. In 1850, Mt. Morris, Livingston County, New York there is the family of James J. Ammerman 60 NJ farmer, Sarah 53 NY, George Vantyn 17 NY. George Vantyn was named as a grandson in the 1851 probate of Abraham Bodine's estate so it seems clear this is the correct family.
1855 Mount Morris, Livingston Co., NY: James AMMERMAN 65 farmer, born New Jersey, Sarah 58 wife born Cayuga County. Lived 30 years in Mount Morris.
1860 Mount Morris, Livingston Co., NY: Jas. J. AMERMON 70 NJ farmer, Sally 60 NY wife
1870 Mount Morris, Livingston Co., NY: J. J. AMMERMAN 80 NJ farmer.
From Livingston County, NY Wills, 14: 91.
On 30 April 1877, the will of James Amerman was presented to the Surrogate of Livingston County by his son-in-law Peter Petrie and the probate was approved on 30 July 1878. Named in the will was his deceased son Isaac Amerman and son-in-law Peter Petrie. [Note: pages 92 and 93, containing the balance of the will, was overlooked in microfilming and unavailable.]
Death Notice, The Corning (NY) Journal of 26 April 1877.
