Notes for: John Bodine

This is the John Bodine living in East Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ during the 1880 Census. He was 24 and born in New Jersey. His parents' birth places are not listed in the online census. His wife was Adaline, age 21 and born in New Jersey (as well as her parents). I will assume that this John Bodine is that person in this census, but it needs more proof.

John Bodine lived on Delevan street and died at home on Monday evening, December 22. He was 68 years old.

He was survived by his widow, one son, Ernest Bodine, and two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sutterly and Mrs. Orville Holcombe, of Lambertville.

Interment will be made at Riverview cemetery.

In 1880, John and Adalina Bodine lived in East Amwell Township, Hunterdon County and in 1900, in Lambertville, Hunterdon County working as a day laborer. He reported that in 22 years of marriage his wife had borne 5 children, all then living. In 1920, John Bodine lived with his family in Lambertville, Hunterdon County. Minnetta, age 20, listed as his daughter, was actually his daughter-in-law, wife of his son Dale. In 1930, Adaline Bodine, age 71, and now widowed, lived in Lamberville with 2 of her married children.

The family of John Bodine, of 34 Delevan street, wish to thank those who so kindly assisted at their recent bereavement. [senders of floral arrangements omitted] The funeral was held from the residence last Friday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Heron Lee in charge. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of LaBaw. Mr. Bodine is survived by his wife and three children: Mrs. Erwin Sutterly, Mrs. Orville Holcombe and Ernest Bodine, all of Lambertville; two sisters: Mrs. Celeste Lewis, of Washington Crossing, and Mrs. Henry Reed, of Minneapolis, Minn.

LAMBERTVILLE--- Funeral services for Mrs. Adeline Bodine, 91, who died Sunday, will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the VanHorn Funeral Home, 21 York Street. The Rev. Joseph E. McCabe of the Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call this evening. Mrs. Bodine, widow of John Bodine, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Orville Holcombe of 145 George Street. In addition to her daughter she is survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bodine was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Deborah Danbury Lake.
