Cecil Albert Baer, Jr. AND Miss Lucille Bodine were married 3 June 1939 by Rev. C. M. Raby, D.D., Pastor, 1st Methodist Church, Austin, Texas.

Death claimed Dr. Cecil A. Baer, 42-year-old Columbus dentist, Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in the new Herman hospital in Houston where he had undergone surgery for a stomach ailment. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. by Rev. W. F. Hathaway of the Methodist Church here in the Columbus Funeral home. Dr. Baer was a member of the Methodist church. Dr. Baer opened a dental office in Columbus Nov. 21, 1949, buying the office and equipment of the late Dr. W. W. Gunn. Dr. Baer also operated the Corner Drug store here for sometime before selling it to Bob Hellrung. He was a World War II veteran, having served at Lackland Airforce base as chief assistant to the chief oral surgeon there. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1940 and from the UT dental school in 1945. Dr. Baer is survived by his widow; young son, Jimmy Baer; his mother, Mrs. C.A. Baer Sr. of San Antonio; and a brother Bob Baer of San Antonio; and a sister, Mrs. Paul Mitchum. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.

Henry A. Bowman, professor emeritus of sociology, died on December 1, 1977, in Colorado City, Texas. He was 74. Professor Bowman was born on July 19, 1903, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Western Reserve University in 1927 and was awarded his master's degree from the same institution in 1929. He received his PhD degree in 1931 from Yale University, where he was a Sterling Research Fellow. Prior to joining the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Bowman taught at Stephens College from 1931 to 1955. Professor Bowman taught at the University from 1955 until 1969. His courses on marriage and the family, the field in which he was an internationally recognized authority, were among the most popular offered by the University, attracting more than 500 students each semester. Dr. Bowman was the author of Marriage for Moderns, a textbook widely used in the United States and translated into several foreign languages. The book sold more than a quarter of a million copies. He also published A Christian Interpretation of Marriage and numerous articles. In 1967 Professor Bowman was honored with the Osborne Teaching Award from the National Council on Family Relations. He also earned a teaching excellence award from the Student's Association of the University. Dr. Bowman was a Fellow of the American Sociological Association and the American Association of Marriage Counselors. A long-time consultant to the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, he was co-winner of the first award for excellence given by the Texas Council on Family Relations. The honor is now known as the Moore-Bowman Award.

COLORADO CITY - Henry A. Bowman, Ph.D., 74, of Colorado City and professor emeritus from the University of Texas in Austin, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, at the Root Memorial Hospital afler a long illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, in the Kiker-Scale Funeral Home Chapel. Final disposition will be in Restland Crematorian in Dallas. Born July 19, 1903, in Cleveland, Ohio, he received his Ph.D. Irom Yale University. In 1948, he authored the book "Marriage for Moderns" and the eighth edition in January. He was a professor of pychology at the University in, Texas in Austin from 1956 to 1969. Afler retiring in 1969, he received the title professor emeritus. He was a member of thc Episcopal church. He married Lucille Bodine Baer Dec. 16. 1966, in Austin. Survivors include his wife; a son. Charles K., Ph.D. of Fredrickton, New Burnswick, Canada; and a brolher, Dr. Robert Bowman of Cleveland.
