Verla Mae Bodine , 74, of Mt. Vernon, died 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. She was born Friday, April 8, 1938, in Jefferson County, the daughter of John William and Julia (Boles) Miller. She married Bobbie A. Bodine on Jan. 2, 1957, in Jefferson County. Verla Mae was a housekeeper for East Side Lumber Company in Mt. Vernon for 20 years. She was a member of Harlan Road Church of God in Mt. Vernon. She is survived by her husband, Bobbie A. Bodine of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Janice Lynn Vance and husband Chad of Mt. Vernon; adopted daughter, Michelle Venturi of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Jaime Lynn Logan of Arkansas, Roger Wayne Bodine and wife Heather of Mt. Vernon and Jonathan Ross Green and wife Megan of Carlyle; three great-grandchildren, Shaylynn Michelle Bodine of Arkansas, Calieb Bodine of Dieterich and Jasmine Hughey of Mt. Vernon; stepgrandson, David Hughey of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Pauline Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Norma Tate of Dix and Marian Wilson and husband Donald of Deltona, Fla.; brother, John Kenneth Miller and wife Sharon of Bridgeton, Mo.; brother-in-law, Victor Palmerton of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Roger Allen Bodine and Charles Robert Bodine ; one sister, Betty Palmerton; and one brother-in-law, Lloyd Tate. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Jon Green and the Rev. Ted Anderson officiating. Interment will be at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in McClellan Township in Jefferson County. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Bobbie A. Bodine, 79, of Mt. Vernon, died 10:24 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at his home in Mt. Vernon. He was born Sunday, June 16, 1935, in Jefferson County, the son of Arley George and Mary Katherine (Beckley) Bodine. He married Verla M. Miller on Jan. 2, 1957, in Jefferson County, and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2013. He is survived by daughter, Janice Lynn Vance and husband Chad of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Jonathan Ross Green and wife Megan of Columbia, Mo., Jaime Lynn Logan of Mt. Vernon and Roger Wayne Bodine and wife Heather of Alton; great-granddaughter, Shaylynn Michelle Bodine of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandsons, Calieb Bodine of Louisville, Shayne, Michael and Cody Cherry of Alton; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise Russell and husband Gerald of Mt. Vernon; "adopted daughter", Michelle Venturi of Mt. Vernon; special friend, Ruth Ann Bain of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Roger Allen Bodine and Charles Robert Bodine; four brothers, Billy Tom Bodine, Lloyd O. Bodine, Charles Ray Bodine and Bennie Lee Bodine; and one sister, Della Marie. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Jon Green, the Rev. Ted Anderson and the Rev. Doug Bowers officiating. Interment will be at South Hickory Hill Cemetery, McClellan Township in Jefferson County. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Bobbie was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, serving from March 28, 1954 until being discharged on March 18, 1957. He worked at Kankakee Electric Steel in Kankakee. He later worked in the electrical shop at Precision National (now National Railway Equipment Co.), was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376, a member of Harlan Road Church of God in Mt. Vernon and he enjoyed attending Addus Healthcare in Mt. Vernon.
