Chas. L. Jones, 22, son of Nelson Jones & Alice Cutler AND Ettie Bodine, 18, daughter of Geo. Bodine, were married 17 Jan 1905.
Charles L. & Etta Jones are listed in the 1908 Mount Vernon city directory which notes that Charles worked as a barber. By 1910, Charles and Etta Jones had separated and Etta lived with their son Carl with her parents. The couple divorced and Charles married Sidney May Luckenbill with whom he was living in 1942 when he registered for the World War II Draft as a resident of Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. He reported he was born 13 Nov 1883 in Tower Hill, Illinois, was a self-employed barber, and named his wife Sidney and son Carl Lynn Jones as his next of kin.

Rev. Lepton Harpole was ordained a minister in 1931. For 17 years he was pastor at Blue Point church near Johnsville and for 14 years was minister at the Hazel Dell church at Sesser. During his ministry, he also pastored a number of other churches in southern Illinois. At the time of his death he was serving two churches as minister- the Arnold View church at Creal Springs and the Liberty church at Johnston City. Rev. Lepton and Henrietta Harpole were buried in Bethel Cemetery, Jefferson County.

CLINTON---Charles L. Jones, 70, retired Clinton barber, died at John Warner Hospital at 6 a.m. Friday. He was taken to the Pullen and Boos Funeral Chapel where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. P. E. Roll of Clinton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born Nov. 13, 1883 at Tower Hill, the son of Nelson and Mary Alice Butler Jones. He was married to Etta Bodner [sic] Jan. 7, 1904 [sic] at Mt. Vernon. He married Sidney Luckenbill July 7, 1913. Surviving are his wife and one son, Carl, of Mt. Vernon. One brother preceded him in death. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen's Lodge and the Barber's Union.

The Rev. Lepton F. Harpole, well known Mt. Vernon minister, died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday at Jefferson Hospital about three hours after suffering a heart attack. The Rev. Mr. Harpole, who resided in Dodds township, was 53 years, 8 months and 23 days of age. He was stricken near the Talbutt Implement Co., on the Waltonville Rd., yesterday afternoon and an emergency call was made to the rural fire department. Fire Chief Carl Jones responded with an inhalator and upon arrival found that the stricken man was his stepfather. Chief Jones was able to revive Mr. Harpole and he was taken to the hospital, where he died a few hours later. At the time of his death the Rev. Mr. Harpole was serving two churches as minister- the Arnold View church at Creal Springs and the Liberty church at Johnston City. He was ordained to the ministry in 1931. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers Chapel. The Rev. Riley Burton will officiate, and burial will be in Bethel Memorial cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Harpole was born July 31, 1893 in Mt. Vernon, the son of George F. and Luella (Bryan) Harpole. He was a lifetime citizen of this community. On September 27, 1911 he was married to Henrietta Jones, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Norma J. Little and Mrs. Mary Mae Marquis of Mt. Vernon; a stepson, Carl Jones of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtel Bechtel and Mrs. Helen Morgan of Mt. Vernon; a brother, the Rev. Marsh Harpole of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Henrietta Harpole, 87, of Route 1, died at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at the Jeffersonian Nursing Home. Mrs. Harpole was born in Jefferson county on Feb. 6, 1887, the daughter of George W. and Sarah (Quinn) Bodine. She was married on Sept. 29, 1911, to the Rev. Lepton Harpole, who preceded her in death on April 24,1957. A housewife, she was a member of the Bakerville Freewill Baptist church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers Chapel, with burial in Bethel Memorial cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Chapel after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Harpole is survived by one son, Carl Jones, Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Marquis, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Norma J. Romani, Valier; three grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
