Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Bookout and their five children moved to Hartley in February, 1925. They came from Sherman, Texas, and settled on the old Marshall place southeast of Hartley. Mr. Bookout broke out the sod on six sections to make one of the larger cultivated acreages in the area. he planted this virgin land in wheat.
