Notes for: John (Fletcher?) Burdine, Sr.
William R. Burdine, son of John (Fletcher) Burdine, Sr. and his 2nd wife unknown(some say she was Susannah Shotwell; I believe that is incorrect). He born 7 Aug 1824 and died 13 Jul 1883 in Itawamba County, Mississippi. In my notes I have him married to Anna Bolding, but also to Anna Collins and I have not been able to find which is correct. I have 9 children listed for him. Carol Ann
- My appolgies! when I turned the page over I did copy the children of William Murrah Burdine and not the children of John Fletcher Burdine Jr. I do have all the children of John Fletcher Burdine Jr. If anyone wants them. Carol Ann

Cynthia, I am very interested in your Tennessee connection of Burdines. I have been searching for descendants of Nathaniel Burdine, who settled in Tennessee around 1820. Nathaniel is a brother of Samuel Burdine who is the father of John Fletcher Burdine. John Fletcher Burdine settled in Mississippi around the same time Nathaniel went to Tennessee. Samuel remained in South Carolina. I will e-mail you. Carol Ann

BURDINE Mailing List: Message Board Post from Carol Ann Burdine [carolannburdine at sbcglobal.net]:
I'll not restart the Fletcher/Eddins debate. However, John [Fletcher] Burdine Sr. was never named such. Only John Burdine. Son Wesley and son John Fletcher Burdine both record their father's name in their own personal Bibles as "John Burdine my father..." John Sr. did have a son, John Fletcher Burdine [Jr.], generations later John Sr. became known as John Fletcher Burdine Sr. possibly due to his sons name. Samuel Burdine did marry Mary Eddins. We have her father's will for that record. In 1940 a Burdine manuscript was printed stating.... Samuel Burdine Married Mary ________? (Fletcher) because the researcher could not find a name for Mary. Since that time many of this family have tried to give her the Fletcher name.
Further research has shown that Samuel was never a minister. Frances Asbury visited him and brother Nathaniel at various times as recorded in his Journel. Samuel had sons and grandsons who became ministers.
