Notes for: Milton Woodruff Bodine

There is a Milton Bodine listed as Eli's son in the 1930 Census of Chemung, NY. He was 16 years old. He also has seven other siblings mentioned in that Census. However, Maynard and Earl are not listed since they were born, I think, after 1930. That makes ten children. However, Eli and Edith Bodine are listed in Edith's obituary as having had nine children. Milton is not listed.

There is a Milton W. (Woodruff) Bodine (1913-1965) and his wife, Dorothy H. Bodine (1916 - ____) listed as buried in the Chemung Cemetery in Chemung, NY. This must be the Milton Bodine listed as Eli's son. A note at the online cemetery listing says Milton was cremated in Florida and buried in Chemung on June 28, 1965 at the age of 51.

For now, I am listing this Milton as Eli and Edith Bodine's son, but it does make for a bit of a mystery.

From Ronny Bodine:

The Elmira Star Gazette of Wednesday, 27 Sept 1939 reported the marriage on the previous Sunday (24 Sept) and that of Saturday, 30 Sept 1939 reported the "recent" marriage of Milton W. Bodine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli J. Bodine of Chemung AND Miss Dorothy H. Breese, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Breese of Breesport at the Methodist Church in Penn Yan. Attendants included Eli J. Bodine Jr., brother of the bridegroom.

In April 1940, Milton and Dorothy Bodine lived with Milton's parents and siblings in Chemung, Chemung County, New York where Milton worked as an agent selling retail farm machinery. In 1957-1959, Milton and Dorothy lived in Orlando, Florida where they are listed in that city's directory for those years.

Milton Bodine was buried in Chemung Village Cemetery, Chemung County, New York. The cemetery records note he died in Florida, was cremated there and was buried 28 June 1965.
