In 1860, John and Mary Bodine lived in Berkeley County, West Virginia where John was engaged as a constable. During the Civil War, John served as a Private with Company E, 2nd Virginia Infantry (CSA). The Bodine family was living 1870-1900 in Hedgesville, Berkeley County where John was engaged in 1870 in farming and 1880-1900 as a butcher. The couple reported in 1900 that in 41 years of marriage Mary had borne 9 children of whom 8 were then living. Margaret Johnson is named as the mother of Flora Demmel in the latter's Ohio death certificate. John and Mary Bodine were buried in Hedgesville Cemetery, Berkeley County.
