Notes for: William C. Bodine
His middle initial and her name "Sarah A. Taylor" came from the WWI draft info for George and Charles. I did just have her name as Sally from the census info.
According to the 1880 Census of Dover, DE, both his parents were born in Delaware. Both of Sally's parents were born there, too.
From Ronny Bodine:
From Kent County Marriage Records:
William C. Bodine and Sarah Taylor were married 21 Oct 1858 by W. C. Robinson, MG, Pastor of the M.E. Church, Dover.
In 1860, Wm. (30 NJ) and Sallie A. (25 DE) Bodine lived in Murderkill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware. William worked as a laborer and the couple had no children. In June 1880, William (42) and Sally (40) Bodine lived in Dover, Kent County now with 7 children: Mary 19, John 17, Susan 14, William 13, Charles 7, George 5 and Ida, 6 months. In 1900, Wm. C. and Anna Bodine lived in Milford Hundred, Kent County engaged as a farmer. He reported that in 43 years of marriage his wife had borne 10 children of whom 6 then lived. Two children were living with them, Charles 27 and George 25 and his wife Anna. According to Delaware death records Sarah Bodine, 61, housewife, died of consumption of the lungs. It was noted also that she was married, thus William survived her but must have died prior to the 1910 census as there is no further record of him.
The identity of William's parents is unknown. In 1880 he claimed his parents were born in Delaware, but in 1900 he said both were born in New Jersey. Prior to his marriage in 1858 there appears to be no record of any Bodines in Delaware so that one may assume they were born in adjoining New Jersey as he was himself.
