Notes for: John Bodine
John is living with his son Frank in the 1870 and 1880 censuses. In the 1880 Census of West Burlington, Bradford Co., PA, he is 68 and born in NY. Both his parents were born in NY, too. He is retired.
This is only a wild guess, but I wonder if this John is not the same as the John T. Bodine who was the son of Isaac Bodine and Catherine Casper. If this is true, then, based on the following biographical information of John's son Frank, we could guess that Isaac's father was a Frank/Francis Bodine. If this John was born about 1812, the Isaac would have been born about 1782 or so. And maybe Francis, Isaac's father, would have been born about 1750. These are only wild guesses and would need a lot more proof.
The following must apply to the Frank Bodine who was the son of this John. It comes from the Bradford Co., PA GenWeb site and is an excerpt from the "Bradford (County) Reporter" of December 18, 1884 for West Burlington:
F. Bodine was a faithful soldier in the late war, and comes from a line of heroes. He enlisted in the 207th Regiment in August, 1864, and was connected with the army of the Potomac. He was at the engagements at Fort Steadman, Weldon Railroad, Hatcher's Run, in and about Petersburg, and the closing scenes at five Forks. He was twice wounded. Mr. Bodine's great-grandfather, Frank Bodine, came from France, and served through the Revolution. He was several times wounded, and lived to be ninety years old. His grandfather, Jeremiah Robinson, was a soldier in the war of 1812 and the Mexican war. Mr. Bodine engaged in blacksmithing at West Burlington for several years.
I believe the John and Leah Budine listed in the 1850 Census of Bradford County is this family: John Budine, 38, farmer, NY; Leah Budine, 38, NY; Francis Budine, 11, NY.
The following death record may apply to this John Bodine:
John Bodine: age at death - 85; Birthplace - N.Y.; occupation - Farmer; date of death - 5/8/1894 in W. Burlington of LaGrippe; buried in Hilton Cem. on 5/10/1894.
From Ronny Bodine (August 3, 2020):
John Bodine was born 1812 in New York and his only child, son Francis was born there in 1838. The 1840 census of New York listed 8 John Bodines, but only two who fell in the age group of 20 to 29, born 1811-1820, one living in Albany, Albany County and the other in Oxford, Chenango County. Both had a son aged 0-4, thus 1836 to 1840, which matches the 1838 birth of son Francis. But it is the Chenango County John Bodine who lived in the same area as a Francis Bodine, aged 50-59, who must have been whom John's son was named after.
