Notes for: Samuel Taylor Bodine, Sr.

A 1939 graduate of Princeton University, he earned a master's degree in modern language from Harvard University in 1941. Alice (Goodridge) Bodine was the daughter of Edward and Alice Goodridge. Their engagement was reported in the "New York Times" of 13 Sept 1941. The marriage of Samuel Bodine and Elsa Keller, daughter of Theodore Hazard Keller, was reported in the "New York Times" of 26 Jan 1958 and his marriage to Pauline Parsons, daughter of Munroe Hotchkiss Parsons, at the home of her parents, was reported in the "New York Times" of 3 June 1961. Samuel and his wives Elsa Bodine and and Pauline Bodine were buried in the churchyard of the Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Elsa K. Bodine died 30 July 1960 in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County at age 30.

SAMUEL TAYLOR BODINE, 75, former head of the modern language department and former dean of students at Germantown Academy, died Sunday at Waverly Heights, a retirement community in Gladwyne. He attended Episcopal Academy and graduated from St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H., and Princeton University. He earned a master's degree in modern language from Harvard University in 1941. He taught at St. Paul's for 17 years before joining Germantown Academy, where he headed the modern language department for 21 years. He retired in 1978. He was a former member of the vestry of the Church of the Ascension in Saranac Lake, N.Y., where he had a summer home, Stony Rock. He was also a member of the board of the Center for Music, Drama and the Arts in Lake Placid. He was a member of the Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr. Survivors: his wife, Pauline Parsons Bodine; sons, Samuel T. Jr., Peter V.; daughters, Penelope and Marian; four grandchildren; a brother, and a sister. Services: Sunday at noon, Church of the Redeemer, New Gulph and Pennswood Roads; burial, in the church yard.

BODINE PAULINE 'POLLY' (nee Parsons), of Waverly Heights, Gladwyne, PA, died on Sunday, March 3, 2002, wife of the late Samuel Taylor Bodine. She is survived by her daughter, Marian T. Bodine; step-children; Samuel T. Bodine Jr. Peter V. Bodine and Penelope Bodine. She is also survived by 2 nephews; Frederic T. Cliffe III and Charles H. Cliffe; 6 grandchildren and one great grandson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Services on Thurs. March 7th, at 11 A.M. in Church of the Redeemer, cor. of Pennswood and New Gulph Roads, Bryn Mawr, PA. Burial will follow in the Churchyard. WINCHESTER, Va.--Alice G. Bodine, 83, formerly of the Monadnock Region, died Aug. 30, 2002, in Westminster Canterbury. Ms. Bodine was born on March 24, 1919, in Framingham, Mass., daughter of Edward and Alice Sevin Goodridge. She was a retired custodian in residence for the Historical Society. Family members include a daughter, Penelope "Penny" Bodine of Cabin John, Md.; two sons, Samuel Bodine of Williamsville, N.Y. and Peter Bodine of Coral Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. James Cemetery, Glastonbury, Conn.
