Notes for: Frank Hulzyer Bodine
From Ronny Bodine:
From New York City Marriage Records:
Frank Bodine AND Bertha C. Smith were married 27 Oct 1900 in Richmond County.
From New Jersey Marriage Records:
Frank Bodine AND Edna Rush were married 1911. (Exact date & location not specified.)
Frank Bodine's 1st wife, Bertha, was the daughter of John C. and Mercy Smith, with whom she was living in June 1900 in Franklin Township, Warren County. As Frank Bodine was living with his parents and both Frank and Bertha were unmarried at the time it appears their marriage took place after June 1900, but before 1902 when their son Charles was born. Bertha Bodine was buried in Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery, Franklin Grove, Warren County. In April 1910, Frank Bodine lived with his mother in Franklin Township, Warren County. He reported he was widowed which coincides correctly with the death of his wife in 1908. On 12 Sept 1918 Frank Hulzyer Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in Belvidere, Warren County, New Jersey naming Mrs. Edna Bodine as his next of kin. Although in 1900, his parents reported his birth as June 1877, at his draft registration he claimed to have been born 6 June 1875, a date that is also inscribed on his grave marker. This latter date would have conflicted with his sister Annie's birth in Aug 1875, but it appears that date was also incorrect and should be 1873. In 1920-1930, Frank Bodine lived in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey engaged in farming. Edna (Rush) Bodine was the daughter of Charles L. and Martha Jane (Rinehart) Rush.
For whatever reason, Frank and Bertha's son, Robert, appears in no census under the name Robert Bodine, perhaps taken in by other family members and recorded under another name. On 11 Nov 2009, Robert A. Bodine, 79, of Hackettstown, New Jersey, in a telephone conversation with Ronny Bodine, confirmed his grandfather was Frank Bodine. He did not recall his grandmother as Bertha, but did recall Edna Bodine as the wife of Frank and that Charles Bodine was his uncle.
