Notes for: Mary Jane Bodine
In May 1997, a picture was obtained of her when she was a young lady. It was sent to Thomas Bodine of Boaz, Alabama by a great-grandson, Jerry Jernigan. The year 1857 has also been given as her birth year.
From Ronny Bodine:
James and Mary Jernigan were two of the eight charter members of the New Friendship Baptist Church on 10 Apr 1886. He was called to serve as church pastor 17 Aug 1889 and was ordained 14 Sept 1889 and resigned as pastor 14 Dec 1889. After leaving New Friendship Baptist Church, he pastored at Chalybeale Spring Church and other churches in Irondale, Fultondale, and the Mount Pinson area, and lived in Tarrant City, Alabama. See "From Friends...Came Friendship, New Friendship Baptist Church 100th Anniversary, 1886-1986".
In 1910-1920, the Jernigan family was living in Jefferson County where Jim was engaged in farming. Mary reported in 1900 that she had borne 9 children of who 6 were then living. The 1900 census also reported they had been married 26 years,
Children: Frank (April 1878), Harvey (Oct 1887), Blanche (Feb 1893), Jerry B. (Oct 1899).
