Notes for: William Francis Bodine
I had his middle name as Franklin, but RB had Francis. I will go with that. RB says "Francis" comes from his marriage record.
From Ronny Bodine:
The births of their four children appear in the birth records of Prince William County as children of William and Mary Bodine. Prince William County death records record William F. Bodine, son of Theodore Bodine, was "killed" 21 June 1895 on the Hartford Farm. He had been born in Prince William County and the information was provided by his wife Mary. In 1900, Mary Bodine, now widowed, lived with her 4 children in Brentsville, Prince William County engaged in farming. She reported she had borne 4 children and all lived with her. The four children named were William, Llera, DeWitt and Mary. In April 1910, as Molly Bodine, age 55, she lived in Brentsville with 3 of her children. William and Mary Bodine were buried in Bradley Community Cemetery, Prince William County.
The Washington Post (Washington, D.C.) of 22 June 1895
Manassas, Va., June 21.--William F. Bodine, who resided near Aden post-office, in this county, was shot and almost instantly killed by James Ball, a near neighbor, at 6 o'clock this morning. Ball was arrested while on his way to this place, as he claims, for the purpose of surrendering himself, and is now held for preliminary examination, which will take place as soon as the witnesses to the shooting can be obtained. The shooting is the result of an old feud which was renewed this morning in the public road bear the gate leading into Mr. Bodine's residence.
The foregoing trial was reported in succeeding issues of The Washington Post. The reason for the shooting is that Ball feared Bodine would do him harm. After 20 minutes of deliberation by the jury, Ball was acquitted of the murder.
From Virginia Death Records:
Mary E. Bodine, widow of Wm. Bodine, dau. of William Bryant & Mary Wilkins, born 28 Nov 1852 in Nokesville, died 16 Oct 1923 in Manassas, Prince William County and was buried in Bradley Cemetery.
