Notes for: Joseph Thompson

I'm not sure what the order of their children's birth is. What I have listed is from the will. However, that seems to list the order of the sons and then the daughters.

Here is the will of Joseph Thompson. It comes from Jessamine County Will Book A, pages 268-270 (1809).

In the name of God Amen.

I Joseph Thompson of Jessamine County and state of Kentucky being of perfect mind and memory, but knowing it is appointed for all men to die I do commit my soul unto God that give it & my body to the earth from whence it was taken in hopes of a glorious resurrection at the last day. As to my worldly estate that God has been pleased to (here the word "give" is crossed out) bless me with in this (page 269) life I wish to disperse of in the following manner viz.

First of all I allow that all my just and lawful debts and funeral charges be punctually paid.

Item I leave in the possession of my beloved wife Mary the third part of all my estate real and personal during her natural life. I allow my land to be divided between my two sons Joseph and Alexander equally at their mother's decease. I allow a negro boy to Joseph named Moses with what property he now claims as his own. I allow a negro boy to my son Alexander named Jesse with what property he now claims as his own. I allow a negro boy named Elijah to my son William. I allow my daughter Elizabeth a negro woman named Jean with her issue from this date and what she now claims her own. I reserve my two negroes Tom and Eve for the support of my wife while she lives and at her decease to be sold with my other property and an equal divide to be made among all my children Joseph, Samuel, Alexander, William, Agness, Mary, Rachael, Margaret, & Elizabeth.

And I herby constitute and ordain this my last will and testament and do make and disannul every other will (page 270) or wills that may have been made by me and I do hereby constitute my trusty friend William Gibson and my son Samuel to this my last will honestly and fairly executed between my children. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of March one thousand eight hundrend and eight.
