Notes for: Francis ("Frank") Boudin / Bodine

Variations of the name Bodine 'possibly' found in the Kingston DRC records are Buding, Buden, Bodyn, Budyn, Buton, Boutyn, Boudin, Boedin, and Boudyn. I'm not sure all of these are found in the Kingston records, but they were in a note attached to the baptism info that was sent to me. I think another variation was Bordine.

I have made several educated guesses about the children of this family and who they married. There could be several mistakes. Look for more more proof than just the guesses I have ventured here.

His wife, Margaret Sluyter, was a witness at the baptism of a Bekie (Rebecca?) Bodine:

Parents, Antoni Baron and Bekie Boudein; David, 10 June 1792, witnesses David Atkins and Margritje Sluyter.

I'm not sure who this Bekie would have been, but it could be on of their daughters.

I wonder if the following might not apply to this Francis Bodine. He could be the "great-grandfather" mentioned in this article, but that is only a wild guess right now. The article comes from the BRADFORD REPORTER (Bradford Co., PA), DECEMBER 18, 1884, WEST BURLINGTON:

F. Bodine was a faithful soldier in the late war, and comes from a line of heroes. He enlisted in the 207th Regiment in August, 1864, and was connected with the army of the Potomac. He was at the engagements at Fort Steadman, Weldon Railroad, Hatcher’s Run, in and about Petersburg, and the closing scenes at five Forks. He was twice wounded. Mr. Bodine’s great-grandfather, Frank Bodine, came from France, and served through the Revolution. He was several times wounded, and lived to be ninety years old. His grandfather, Jeremiah Robinson, was a soldier in the war of 1812 and the Mexican war. Mr. Bodine engaged in blacksmithing at West Burlington for several years.

Subject: do you have information on Francis Bodine of Kingston, NY

Are you aware of Francis Bodine of Kingston, Ulster County, New York?

Francis Bodine (1800 Federal Census, NY, Ulster County)
Francis Bedine (1790 Federal Census, NY, Ulster County)

Apparently, he was born about 1743 and died after 1800, although the source for his birth is unclear. He married Margaret Sluyter about 1767 in the Dutch Reformed Church of Kingston NY. They had a daughter Catherine about 1769.

It does not appear he was a descendent of Jean Bodine (the well researched immigrant), but perhaps they had another ancestor in common. Other Huguenots traveled to the Kingston area, according to History of the Huguenot Emigration to America.

There is a Francis Bodine buried in the Old Dutch Churchyard in Kingston, Ulster Co., NY. He died Dec. 6, 1810 in Ulster County. I wonder if it isn't this Francis Bodine. Just a guess, though.

Bill Parkinson later sent me the info from these two censuses. From the surrounding names on the censuses, it looks like Francis was in the same place at the time of both censuses. And the other members of Francis's household do seem to match up pretty well with the children I have for him. It is not an exact match, but some of the girls may have died or been married by the time of these censuses.

Information from Allan Albright at WorldConnect says this:

The NYG&BR shows records in Ulster County that Henry Parslow (Francis's son-in-law) and Francis Boudin were donated supplies to survive the winter by local farmers under authority of the town council. Allan has more data on that. Census records show Francis was a resident of Henry's house late in life.
