They owned 100 acres in 1872.
I had wondered if Harriet was really the mother of these children. According to the 1880 Census, the mother of all the children was born in New York, but Harriet is said to have been born in Michigan. Maybe this was a mistake. It needs further checking. Ronny Bodine then checked on this and wrote the following: "The 1880 census does show Harriet as born in Michigan as do all other censuses. For the children, it does show their parents as born in NY. But it appears the census taker just repeated the entries line after line as the parents of both Peter and Harriet were born in New York. Harriet is shown as Samuel's wife from 1870 on and even the youngest children for whom Harriet was clearly their mother, show NY as their mother's birth place so the conflicting entries are the census taker's fault."

1920 (2 Jan) Battle Creek, Calhoun Co.: Thomas C. SPRALL 47 Canada locomotive engineer, Amber C. 42 MI wife, Thomas F. 15 MI son, Harriett BORDINE 74 MI widowed mother-in-law.
