Notes for: Effie Marie Bodine

According to info in the book "Boulder Fireplace," Effie attended a one-room grade school, no. 98, near her home. She and her sister, Alta, attended Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas in order to take their high school courses. They both graduated in 1917. Effie belonged to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Effie said that her hobbies were "Traveling and oil painting." She studied oil painting at St. Luke's School of Continuing Education (which is mostly for senior citizens) and at the Science and Arts Foundation. She did that after retiring in November of 1963 from nineteen years at Tinker Air Force Base where she worked as a payroll clerk and auditor.

They traveled in a 24 foot travel-trailer and in 1973 were in the process of building a second home on Table Rock Lake in South Missouri. They wanted to do that since her husband's hobbies were fishing and woodworking.

The picture below was sent to me by Denise Oliver-Velez. Effie is on the left and Alta is on the right.
