Notes for: Peter Demarest

Peter Demarest and his wife were among the organizers of the
Schraalenburgh church. Cornelius Haring (Herring), father of Peter's
wife, was Judge of Common Pleas, Orange Co., NJ, in 1727. The family
[Haring] had lived in New York City, and had a farm about the present
Bleecker Street. With 15 other families they removed to Tappan,
entering on a Grant of land from Governor Dongan, 1686, about the
present Orangetown. May 30, 1719, Cornelis bought land from Samuel
Demarest, father of Peter; and there Peter and Margrietje made their
home. Peter also inherited land from his father.

They had 9 children: Maria, Catalyntie, Samuel, Fytie, Sara, Jacob,
Margrietjen, John, and Vrouwtje.
