Notes for: Salome ("Sis") Janet Bodine
The following information was edited from a file by Samuel Joseph Bodine, Salome's brother.
The fourth child and first girl of Clarence and Esther Bodine was Salome Janet - or "Sis" as she was generally known around the house and around town. She made her arrival on November 28, 1927 in Marston in the evening hours. Since she was the first girl and the baby of the Clarence Bodine family, a lot of attention was focused on her. When she was less than three years of age, Clarence became sick and died. Salome, along with the other three children, were left fatherless at an early age. Esther had a difficult time keeping the clan together, but she did, and Salome graduated from Marston High School like her brothers. During high school, Salome worked at various jobs to help make her way. She was a babysitter, worked in restaurants, and did odd jobs for pay. When the boys went off to war she worked full time in restaurants. When the boys came home from the Service, she married Reeder M. Haubold of Marston. Reeder was the son of E. E. and Cindy Till Haubold. Both were old Marston families. Reeder was born January 25, 1916. As a matter of fact, Reeder's grandfather had presided at the wedding of Clarence and Esther. Salome and Reeder worked in and around Marston for a few years. He was employed on the river and Salome worked in the postal department. Early in the 1950's, they moved to Memphis where both worked on the naval Base. Salome worked in purchasing and Reeder worked in the department that supplied the water for the base. After several years and some health problems, both retired. Both Salome and Reeder had heart by-pass surgery. After a few years of retirement, Reeder died of congestive heart failure. He died October 5, 1988 and is buried at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Memphis. As of the late 1990's, Salome still lived in Memphis in the house she and Reeder bought many years ago. She still lives alone and is very active in her church. She and Reeder had no children.
