James Bodine registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 in Imperial, California. The Bodine family was living 1930 in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington where James worked as a life insurance salesman. In 1942, he registered for the World War II draft in Spokane stating he was born 2 May 1895 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. The 1945-6 Spokane City Directory shows he owned and operated the J. E. Bodine Agency, an agent for the Western Life Insurance Company.

Helen (Gray) Bodine was the daughter of John P. and Mary Gray. Dorothy (Moore) Bodine was the daughter of Oliver M. and Hettie (Allen) Moore.

In 1920, James and Helen Bodine were living in Imperial where James worked as a truck driver. He stated he was married and self-employed.

Spokane City Directories list James E. and Helen G. Bodine living together in 1922, but apart in 1926.

James and Helen Bodine divorced and on 3 Jan 1927 at Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho Helen Bodine married Millard G. Waldron. She died two years later and was buried in Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, Spokane County, Washington where her grave marker reads: Helen Dec 14, 1896 Apr. 26, 1929 Waldron. Helen Waldron died 25 April 1929 in Spokane, Spokane County, aged 33 years. Parents are John P. and Mary Gray.

J. E. Brodine of Spokane, 31, divorced, salesman, born in Oklahoma, son of Andrew & Cassie (Evans) Brodine AND Dorothy I. Moore, 26, single, teacher, born in Washington, dau. of Oliver & Hattie (Allen) Moore, were married 15 July 1926 in Spokane by Thomas W. Jeffrey, Clergyman. [Note: His name was spelled Brodine throughout the license, but he signed it as J. E. Bodine.]

James and Dorothy Bodine were married 15 July 1926 in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington according to the 1990 obituary of Dorothy Bodine.

James E. Bodine of Spokane, died 2 Feb 1975 in Spokane, Spokane County, aged 79 years.

Retired insurance man James E. Bodine, 79, died yesterday at his home, E219 Glass. Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Ball & Dodd's and burial will be in Riverside. Born in Oklahoma, Mr. Bodine came to Spokane in 1921. From 1936 to 1961 he operated the J. E. Bodine Insurance Agency. A member of Lidgerwood Evangelical Church and East Camp of the Gideons, he was a member of the Union Gospel Mission board of directors. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy I., at the home; a son, James E. Bodine Jr., Chatsworth, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Milton (Dorothy) Hopper, The Dalles, Ore., five sisters and eight grandchildren.

Dorothy I. Bodine, 90, of Salem died Wednesday. She was born in Republic, Wash., and moved to the Labish Center area north of Salem six years ago from The Dalles. She married James E. Bodine Sr. on July 15, 1926, in Spokane, Wash. He died in 1975. She taught elementary school in Spokane for eight years and then joined her husband in an insurance agency for 30 years, retiring in 1967. She was a member of the Labish Center Community Evangelical Church and enjoyed music and traveling. Survivors include her son, James E. Jr. of Denver; daughter Dorothy J. Hopper of Salem; eight grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Spokane. Arrangements are by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
