From notes at Find-A-Grave:

TRAIN KILLS AGED MAN
Edmund Bodine, 83 Years Old, Run Over at a Whitestone Crossing.

While on the way to the railroad depot to meet his only daughter, Sarah, who was coming from her home at West Brighton, S.I. to visit him, Edmund Bodine, 83 years old, for the past ten years an inmate of Dr. Daniel A. Harrison’s sanitarium (aka Breezehurst Terrace, becoming King’s County at Powell's Hill, Whitestone, was killed by a Long Island Railroad train at the Fifth Avenue crossing, Whitestone, late yesterday afternoon.

Fortunately for the daughter’s feelings, she was not a passenger on the train that killed her father. He had misunderstood her as to the date of her visit. Dr. Lewis said last night that Mr. Bodine had crossed the tracks where he was killed over 10,000 times, and he could not understand how the accident occurred. The body, which was badly mangled, was removed to Johann’s morgue, at College Point. The coroner was notified, and the engineer of the train will be required to give bail to-day to await the verdict of the coroner’s jury.
