Notes for: Amy Chamberlain

Her death is mentioned in the July 10, 1883 edition of the "Hunterdon County Democrat." She died on July 7, 1883 at the age of 39 d 8 m 21 d. That would make her birth date be about October 16, 1843. She died of consumption. Her funeral was on Wednesday, July 11, at 10:30 AM "from her late residence."

Her tombstone in the Locktown Pres. Church Cemetery (Hunterdon Co., NJ) reads, "So He giveth His beloved sleep. . ." Here is a picture sent to me by Brian Bodine. It's a little small and difficult to read, but that is the only one I have of it:

Grave of Amy (Chamberlain) Bodine

Here is some information sent to Brian Bodine about the Chamberlain family:

Hi Brian,

I found the parents of your gggrandmother Amy Chamberlain. They are Amplius B. Chamberlain b. 1807 in NY and Elizabeth b. 1811 in New Jersey. They are listed on the 1850 census for Kingwood, Hunterdon County, NJ, page
144. They had 10 children including Amy in the census. He is a farmer.

Descendants of Amplius B. Chamberlain:

I did a search on Ancestry.com for Amplius Chamberlain and came up with a possible connection. While I did not find your Amplius b. 1807, I did find an Amplius b. abt. 1826, in West Sparta, Livingston Co., NY-the son of Harlem G. Chamberlain and Anna Bush- b. January 27, 1795 in Thetford, Orange Co., VT. This Harlem Chamberlain named one of his sons Oscar, had a grandson named Octavius, and Harlem's parents were John Chamberlain and Lydia Hosford.

Amy Chamberlain had a sister Lydia, and son Oscar (your ggrandfather). I believe that your Amplius B. Chamberlain is a son of John Chamberlain and Lydia Hosford of Vermont, and a brother to Harlem Chamberlain. It is just too much of a coincidence to see the names Amplius, Oscar, Octavius, and Lydia in your family and this other family to not be related.

John Chamberlain and Lydia Hosford had the following children:

Royal Tyler Chamberlain b. Nov. 26, 1788 in VT

Aaron Chamberlain b. 1789 in NY

Harlem G. Chamberlain b. January 27, 1795 in VT

John Chamberlain died bef. 1850, Lydia aft. 1850 as she is listed on the 1850 census for West Sparta, Livingston Co., NY living with son Harlem G. Chamberlain. Your Amplius could easily fit in this family as the dates for the children of John and Lydia are within the range for his birth date of 1807 and he is listed on the NJ census as born in NY.

I have the 1850 Hunterdon County Census at the LDS in Clinton and will make a copy of the census page for you with this information.

If you have a subscription to Ancestry.com, the page is .

I did a search on the page for Bodine and there wasn't any so if you are connected to this family they are not aware of it.
