Notes for: John Bodine

This John Bodine is probably the brother of the James Bodine who married Elizabeth Berry. James and John may be the sons of Peter Bodine, the son of John Bodine and Jane Marlatt. This theory needs more proof, but for now we will list both John and James as Peter's sons.

John is listed in the 1880 Census of Liberty, St. Joseph Co., IN. He is a farmer, age 54, and born in OH. His father was born in Virginia and his mother in Ohio. His wife is Ann M. Bodine. She is 48 and born in Ohio. Her parents were born in PA.

From Ronny Bodine:

In 1850, John Bordine, age 24, with James Bordine, age 21, lived in Franklin Township, Warren County, Ohio working as laborers. Both men were unmarried. John Bodine, age 34, was living 1860 in Franklin Township, Warren County and in 1870, he was living in Liberty, St. Joseph County, Indiana and was there in 1880, then aged 54. In 1900, Maria Bodine, age 68 and widowed, was living with her son Cassius Bodine in Polk Township, Marshall County, Indiana. She reported that she had borne 8 children of whom 5 were then living. The death of John Bodine was reported in The Walkerton News of 27 April 1895. He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, St. Joseph County aged 68 years, 11 months, 9 days which establishes a birth date of 12 May 1826.

From Warren County, Ohio Marriage Records:
January 1st 1852 I solemized a marriage between John Bodine & Maria Trowbridge. Wm. P. Peebles, JP

Subject: sons of Peter Bodine of Warren County, OH???

Hello Dave and Ronny,

...

John Bodine born about 1826 in OH (listed 1819 in 1860 Census?)
listed in Franklin, Warren, Ohio in 1850 and 1860
listed in Liberty, St Joseph, IN in 1870

NOTE: wife is listed as Mariah here and Cassius is listed as Catherine
wife Mariah Ann (Trowbridge) born 1832 OH
children: Alice M., Peter, Martha, Cassius, William, Emma, and Nancy
William was born 1863 OH and Emma was born 1864 IN, so they probably moved into St Joseph County in 1863-64.

...

Respectfully yours,
Jan Bodine
