His name in the 1850 Census of Columbia County, Pennsylvania is spelled "Britain." His name on his tombstone in Union Cemetery in Catawissa, PA is supposedly "Brittian Bodine." He died on Nov. 7, 1854 at age 23 y, 1 m, and 25 d.

The petition of Britton Sylvester Bodine a minor child of Britton Bodine deceased late of the township of Locust in the County of Columbia by his mother Rebecca Stokes intermarried with John H. Stokes has prefered to the Court Respectfully Representing: That the petitioner is under the age of fourteen years and has no person legally authorized to take charge of his person and estate and therefore prays the Court to appoint some suitable person his Guardian for that purpose and he will & Whereupon May 2: 1859 Petition read and Joseph Stokes appointed Guardian bail to be given in $500.00 and Isaac Rhoads approved. (Bond filed with petition).
