...Priscilla Short Marlow's mother was Patricia Martha Mattox Short. From what I was told, Granny Patsy as she was called ,told everyone she was 1/2 Cherokee. Granny Patsy was born Nov 13, 1807 in Georgia and died Feb 2 (or 28 not sure on the exact day), 1902 in Mt Vernon, IL. Lived to 94 years old. From what I've read about her, she was a real charactor. Smoked a corn cob pipe. I believe, Because she was fair skinned and married to a white man, she passed as white and manged to avoid the TRAIL OF TEARS. All this is in the Marlow Family Book Dorothy Roane Started and now other cousins are keeping up.
So all the children and grandchildren and on down, from Priscilla and James A Marlow had Cherokee blood in them from Priscilla's side of the family. Thus far I've not found who Granny Patsy's mother and father were yet.
My aunt who was born in 1896 had met Granny Patsy as a child. For years the men in the family admitted they were part Cherokee but the women tried to deny it. :) It wasn't fashionable back then to be part NA. :) Myself, I'm proud of that small part of my heritage. :)
Love and Light,
