Notes for: Laura Gordon Bodine
This probably refers to this Laura Bodine. It is from the August 18, 1885 edition of the Hunterdon County Democrat (v. 48, no. 1).
At the residence of the bride's parents, near Stockton, August 5, by the Rev. E. C. Romine, of Philadelphia, Wm. D. Axtel, of Newark and Laura G. Bodine.
Since Laura's sister, Martha, was also married by Rev. Romine, I will assume this is the Laura who married William Axtell. This is surely correct, but it would need further checking.
From Ronny Bodine (November 22, 2018):
In 1900-1920, William and Laura Axtell lived in Belleville, Essex County where William worked as a machinist in 1900, foreman of a machine shop in 1910 and foreman of a pumps works in 1920. In 1900, he reported that in 14 years of marriage Laura had borne 2 children, both living with them and in 1910 reported both children were still living.
1920 Belleville, Essex Co., NJ: William AXTELL 58 NY foreman-pump works, Laura 57 NJ wife.
The 1925 city directory for Belleville, NJ lists William D. Axtell, but that of 1926 lists Laura G. Axtell, widow of William D.
1930 South River, Middlesex Co., NJ: Edward ASTELL 40 NJ banker, Helen 35 PA wife, Arthur 9 NJ son, Laura 68 NJ mother widow.
