Notes for: John W. Bodine
According the Apgar book, John is the grandfather of Dr. Theodore A. Bodine of Akron, Ohio. John was a Civil War veteran. I also found a John W. Bodine who married a Rebecca Apker on April 23, 1863 in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. Their children were born in Lycoming. I'm going to guess that this is the same couple. John's tombstone says "Co. B 28 Reg. Pa. Vol." This is a GAR marker.
His death date may be either Sept. 20, 28, or 29, 1899. I've seen various transcriptions of his tombstone. The Best-Bodine files supposedly got his his birth and death dates from his Civil War files at the Veteran's Department (Jan. 10, 1833 and Sept. 20, 1899). This info also says he was a farmer and affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. He served in the Civil War. His Civil War records may give information about his wives and family. He enlisted on September 2, 1864 and was discharged on May 27, 1865 with the rank of private. See his discharge papers, too. Sarah Apgar (Apker) was the sister of Rebecca Apker, John's first wife. John does have a will in Lycoming Co., PA. See volume 27, pp. 56-57.
