Obituary, Bradford Era (Bradford, Pa.) of 19 Nov 1924.
George A. Bodine, pioneer business man and public spirited citizen of Bradford, died at his home, No. 11 Mechanic street, at 10 o'clock last evening. He had been in poor health for some time past but his condition had been serious for only a few days and many friends were unaware that the end was regarded as near. Death was due to a general breaking down of the vital forces. Mr. Bodine was born December 24, 1849, near Battle Creek, Michigan, and came to Bradford on March 17, 1876. He engaged In the tinning business here at that time and from this enterprise grew the large and prosperous hardware establishment on Mechanic street known as the George A. Bodine Company with which he was identified as the moving spirit until 1919 when he retired from active business to enjoy the well earned fruits of years of industry and fair dealing. The George A. Bodine company was incorporated in 1907 at which time certain members of the working force were taken Into the firm with a view to lighten the executive labors of the proprietor which had constantly increased with the growth of his business. Since his retirement from the business in 1919 Mr. Bodine had spent much, time in travel and in visiting summer and winter resorts in company with Mrs. Bodine for the benefit of his health. Surviving relatives are the widow, Mrs. Mary E. Bodine of this city, and one sister, Mrs. A. E. McMullin of Atkinson, Ill. Mr. Bodine was a member of the Bradford Club and Bradford Lodge of Elks. He was, in addition to being a business man of ability and a high class citizen, one of the most companionable of men who easily made friends and as easily retained them because of a uniform courtesy that was conquering in character and heart-warming in its quality. A devotee of clean sports, he loved the great open spaces and was much sought as a companion on hunting and fishing excursions where his genial wit and ability as a raconteur made him a general favorite. He took a keen interest in everything that related to the welfare of his adopted city and kept well abreast of public affairs in the community and nation. Few men will be more generally missed or more sincerely mourned than Mr. Bodine and a fund of sympathy will go out to the survivors in their hour of greatest anguish. Announcement of the funeral arrangements will be made later. Friends are requested to omit flowers.

From the Pennsylvania Death Certificate of George A. Bodine: born 24 Dec 1849 in Battle Creek, MI, parents "Don't know"; died 18 Nov 1924 in Bradford, McKean County, buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. George Bodine, Bradford, informant.
