Notes for: Lewis T. Bodine, Capt.
From Find A Grave:
Capt. Lewis T. Bodine, Co.A, 149th Bucktails.
of Tioga County - 2nd Lieutenant August 16th, 1862 , Fought at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 on McPherson's Ridge where he was wounded in the foot. Took command of the company after his capt.(Alfred Sofield) was killed by a direct hit of an artillery shell in the opening battle at the Chambersburg Pike. Prompted to full Captain on April 25th,1864 and was discharged out of the Union Army on November 14th, 1864.
He apparently moved to Kansas City, Missouri. If this is true, then I've probably found him in the 1880 Census of Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO. I will assume that the Louis Bodine in that census is this Lewis. He is a travel agent, age 40, and born in PA. Both of his parents were also born in PA. His wife is Hellen and he has three daughters: Millie, Lillie, and Olive.
*****End of the above info.
Other information said he was a resident of Chicago and had something to do with Bodine Trucking.

Obituary, The Wellsboro (PA) Agitator of Wed., 25 Oct 1899.
Mr. Lewis T. Bodine, a brother of Messrs. A L., I. M. and Robert W. Bodine, of this borough, died last Wednesday at his home in Chicago. His age was 59 years. Mr. Bodine was engaged in the insurance business in Chicago for some time and he was an active and energetic businessman. About three years ago he was crossing a street under the framework of an elevated railroad then in process of construction. A sledge hammer fell some distance and struck him on the head, injuring him seriously. After a long time, when life seemed to be hanging by a single thread, he became able to walk about again, but he never fully recovered from the injury. He spent some months visiting in this borough last year. He was a veteran of the civil war. He enlisted in Captain A. J. Sofield's company in the 149th regiment, became its First Lieutenant, and afterward Captain of the company. He was wounded in battle. Mr. Bodine leaves a widow and three adult children. Soon after his accident it was understood that the city of Chicago offered Mr. Bodine $10,000 in settlement of his claim for damages. He refused it but sued for $30,000. Whether the matter was ever adjusted or not we do not know.
