Subject: Joseph Cook and Sidney Bodine

Hi Dave,

I have found a marriage for Joseph Cook to Sidney Canada in Barbour County, AL (19 Jan 1843). I am pretty sure that is my Joseph and Sidney. There just aren't a lot of female Sidneys out there. I'm still betting that somewhere there is a Bodine in this line, perhaps her mother? My grandfather listening to family stories could very well have mixed up the names and generations. He listed Annie Cook's mother as "Sidney Bodine born in Canada." I had always questioned that she was born in Canada and when I found the marriage license, it all fell into place. So I know his memory was faded when he gave the information for the death certificate, but I also believe there was a grain of truth there somewhere.

She is the gg-grandmother of Betsy Mills who works at RootsWeb. Betsy has not been able to find Sidney's parents. She was told that maybe Sidney was a gypsy and that would explain why it is so hard to track her. Linda Cook Werline (lwerline@netusa1.net) is looking for info on her, too. They were listed in the 1870 Census of St. Francis County, Arkansas. The names of their children came from Betsy Mills .

The names and ages of their children needs more investigation. There may be fewer children than I have put here.
