Lura and Loran had just one daughter: Patricia Joan Smith. Pat is helping Jan Bodine with the family research. Loran worked for the C. & E. I. Railroad.

Lura B. Smith, 91, 56 Eleventh St., Covington, died at 10 a.m. May 22, 1998 in Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer. Born July 4, 1906 in Wabash Township, Fountain County, she was the daughter of Manford "Paddy" and Gertrude Lewsader Bodine. She married Loran H. Smith Dec. 29, 1926. He preceded her in death July 25, 1977. She was a lifelong resident of the Covington area and a graduate of Covington High School in 1924 and Indiana State Teachers College. She was an elementary teacher 31 years at Rabb and Covington schools. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Retired Teachers Association, Wabash Chapel Ladies Aid, and Covington Senior Center where she directed the band for several years. Survivors include daughter Patricia (Franklin) Wright, Rensselaer; brothers Harold (Dorothy) Bodine and Marvin Bodine, both of Covington; three grandchildren; and one great grandson. She was also preceded in death by brother Leon Bodine and sisters Irene Bodine and Kathryn Rennick. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the First Church of Christ, Covington, with Randy Walters officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials can be made to the First Church of Christ or Covington Senior Citizens Center.
