Obituary, The Saginaw Daily News (Saginaw, Mich.) of 14 Dec 1915.
Abner Cresswell, 300 North Warren avenue, died Monday evening, at 7:45 o'clock in St. Mary's hospital from the effects of a fall sustained at his home last Friday when he was descending the cellar stairs to attend to his furnace. He struck on his head on the basement floor and his condition was such that he was promptly taken to the hospital to be properly cared for. The deceased was a resident of Saginaw for the past 55 years, and had a large acquaintanceship in the city where he lived and worked so long. By trade he was a machinist, worked for the Bartlett company for years and later for W. B. Mershon & Co. until failing eyesight compelled his retirement about eight years ago. Born at Wilburhampton, Staffordshire, Eng., in 1839, Abner Cresswell came to the United States when a small boy, living in New York state for about ten years, and later moving to Chicago where he learned his trade, which he followed for nearly half a century in Saginaw. He was married about 1863 to Miss Ellen Bodine, who survived him with six children: Frank of Lewiston, Mich., George of Saginaw, Hubert of Flint, Jesse of Detroit, Harold A. of this city, and a daughter, Maude. He leaves two brothers and four sisters, T. B. Cresswell of this city, and Mrs. Anna Byron of Lawndale, Mrs. Hattie White of Alpena, Mrs. John Wilbur of Saginaw, and Mrs. Ed Harding of Petoskey. He also leaves five grandchildren, Wallace, Verne, Martimer, Mildred and Evelyn Cresswell of Flint.
