Obituary, The Republican-Jeffersonian (Findlay, OH) of Thurs., 12 March 1908.
J. T. Adams, sr., aged 82 years, died at 6 o'clock, Tuesday evening, at his home at 203 East Hardin street. His death was due to paralysis, with which he was stricken on Washington's birthday, although he had been in failing health since October. In the death of J. T. Adams the city of Findlay loses one of its foremost citizens and his family a good father and friend. He was a self-made man, by his own efforts rising to wealth and influence, and by his example forming an object lesson that the young men of today might do well to emulate. James T. Adams was born in Perry county, Pennsylvania, April 22, 1822, and was ten years old when his parents removed to Richland county, Ohio. He was a Presbyterian by religious conviction, and in politics an earnest Republican. In 1849 he was united in marriage to Harriet L., daughter of Peter Bodine of Richland county, and of the three children resulting from this union, the two survivors are Charles F. and Lizzie B., wife of John A. Meeks, of Findlay. The wife of Mr. Adams died Aug. 15, 1899, and April 10, 1902, he married Mrs. Katherine Elms, widow of the late Charles Elms, a once prominent dry goods merchant of this city, who survives him. [Note: The foregoing obituary was abbreviated as it was extremely lengthy in recounting his ancestry and business dealings.]
