Notes for: Cornelius Bodine

I found the reference below that must match this Cornelius Bodine. Erie and Buffalo are about the same thing.

FTM CD #183 Early Settlers of New York State, 1760-1942, Volume 1, July 1936 Presbyterian Church at Good Will, Orange Co, NY:

Page 659 - Marriage Records, copied from Buffalo Newspapers, published through the Buffalo Historical Society: Bodine, Cornelius and Mary Bivins, Dec 23, 1868.

I am guessing that the Charley Bodine mentioned in the 1880 Census of Clarence, Erie Co., NY is this Cornelius's son. He is in the household of his grandfather, Abraham Bodine. Also there is Hellen Thompson, Abraham's daughter. Since Charley's mother died in 1879, I wonder if he was then taken in by Abraham and Hellen to care for him while Cornelius got his life back together. In that census, Charley is one year old and born in NY as were both his parents. I'm not sure where Elizabeth, his sister, was.

[Note from Dave: RB does not have Elizabeth as one of Cornelius and Mary's children; so I will delete her for now. I don't know now where the information came from saying she was one of their children. Anway, I had her married to a Charles Gates.]

I also found a Cornelius Bodine in that 1880 Census of Clarence who was in the household of a Henry Lapp, a physician and surgeon. That Cornelius was 43 and born in NY. His parents were born in PA. He must be this Cornelius. It appears Cornelius and his wife must have had some serious illness about 1879/1880.

In the early morning of Friday, May 18, 1917, Cornelius Bodine, a highly respected citizen of Clarence, was summoned to his Heavenly Home after a lingering illness and patient suffering for seven months. Mr. Bodine was born in the town of Clarence April 21, 1843, and has always resided in that town. The deceased was the only surviving member of a family of eight brothers and sisters. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, (nee Emma Kibler), two sons, Charles of Sierra Madre, Cal., and Lloyd A. of Clarence, and one daughter, Mrs. Clarence Schurr of Clarence, and three grand-children. The funeral services were held from the M. E. Church Sunday afternoon, May 20, Rev. J. E. Neal officiating. Many were in attendance as a mark of esteem to their departed friend. The remains were borne to their final resting place by six nephews.

Obituary, The Amherst (NY) Bee of 15 July 1920.
Mrs. Emma Kibler Bodine, widow of the late Cornelius Bodine, died Friday, July 2, 1920, about midnight, after a long illness. She was born Sept. 20, 1859, in the town of Amherst, moving to Clarence in her early girlhood. She leaves one son, Lloyd A. Bodine, and one daughter, Mrs. Clarence R. Schnurr, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Morgat and Mrs. Fred Miller, all of Clarence, and one brother, George A. Kibler of Tonawanda. She was married to Cornelius Bodine on Feb. 16, 1882. Her husband preceded her in death by three years. For a long time she had been a faithful member of the M. E. Church, leading an exemplary Christian life. Funeral services were held from the home of her son, Mr. Lloyd A. Bodine, at 2 p.m., on Monday, July 5, by her pastor, Rev. S. H. Bass, and at 2.30 p.m. in the M. E. Church. The pastor preached from the text "Asleep in Jesus." Mrs. A. C. Weinauge and Mrs. Clara Harroun sang two selections with Rev. Chas. Parker at the piano. He also assisted the pastor in the service. Many lovely floral pieces adorned the casket. Six nephews acted as bearers and interment was in Fillmore cemetery, Clarence.
