Bertha Stender Bodine, 22, wife of Pvt. Robert Bodine of Titusville, was killed yesterday in Buffalo in a hit and-run accident, the Bodines were informed last evening. No details were given. Pvt Bodine is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Bodine of 108 Kast Spruce place and is with the U. S. Army in Ireland. He was inducted on Jan. 6, 1943. Mrs. Bodine, a dancer by profession, is said by friends to have planned to find work and to make her home in Titusville this winter. She and her family have been regular residents at Canadohta Lake for several summer seasons. Mrs. Stender telegraphed the Bodines from her home in Pittsburgh asking them to notify Pvt. Bodine. The late Mrs. Bodine's sister, Doris Stender Maynard, lost her husband, Howard Maynard, 18, in an automobile crash south of Five Corners on July 30.

Mary Campbell "Bo" Bodine, of Sheffield, died July 11, 2008, at Sunbridge, Tuscumbia, after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. A native of Jackson County, Ala., she was the seventh and last surviving of 12 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Lee Campbell. Mrs. Bodine had a unique experience during World War II when she worked on the site where the atomic bomb was developed. After many years of hard work, she enjoyed her retirement in Sheffield. She had lived more than 40 years in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was highlighted in the Cleveland Plain Dealer for her talent in cooking Southern dishes. She was employed as a clerk and at one time operated her own restaurant. In the old days, everyone knew not to bother her when the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns games were on television. In Sheffield, she was the nursery attendant for several years at Grace Episcopal and York Terrace Baptist churches. She was a loyal and faithful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Mrs. Bodine was predeceased by two husbands; a son, Alton Lee Hastings; and a granddaughter, Michelle Lee Hastings. Her survivors include daughter, Betty McCutchen, of Sheffield; son, Robert B. Bodine (Marianne), of Pinehurst, N.C.; son, Tom Hastings; devoted grandchildren, Mollie McCutchen, of Grundy, Va., Charlie McCutchen, of Columbus, Ga., Katie and Alex Bodine, of Pinehurst, N.C.; and a beloved great-grandson, Eliah McCutchen, of Huntsville, Ala. She is also survived by a number of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in addition to an attentive niece, Louise Teat, of Rainsville, Ala.; and a cousin, Dr. Kirk Minor, of Barton, Ala. A private service was conducted by the Rev. Bruce Palmer in Tuscumbia. The Rev. Roger Hobbs officiated at the burial service at Center Point in Scottsboro. Mrs. Bodine was laid to rest beside her parents and sister, Imogene, who died in childhood. Relatives served as pallbearers. Morrison Funeral Home, of Tuscumbia, assisted the family. Mrs. Bodine's family appreciated the loving and gentle care she received at Sunbridge, Tuscumbia, and from A&E Hospice and the loyal friendship of the Rev. Milt Glor.
