Notes for: Adam Dickerson Bodine, Jr.

Frances Kay Bodine, his grand-daughter, says that he was born in Ohio. This is also what the 1880 Census of Erie, Neosho Co., KS says. It lists him as a laborer living in the household of E. Frymine, his aunt. They are the only two listed. Adam is 23 and born in OH. His father was born in NY and his mother in PA. His aunt was born in PA as well as both of her parents. This would mean, probably, that Adam's mother's parents were born in PA.

I have been looking at your Bodine Website and found our line. On Adam Bodine born 22 June 1856, son of Adam Dickerson and Sarah J Freemeyer you only have the one son listed. I's sure this is our Adam and he had several children. My husband's father was Chester Otto Bodine. His father was Adam and his mother was Rena A. McLain. They were married Dec.29,1888. Can you give me information on this Francis Kay Bodine, the daughter of Adam? Would appreciate any info you can give me.

Thanks, Carol Bodine

Carol later sent me the following Bodine info from what looks like the Catherine Ann Frymiur family Bible. It seems that all of these are children of Adam Bodine and Rena McLain, but I'm not absolutely sure of that.

From Ronny Bodine:

In 1900, Adam Bodine lived in Jefferson Township, Coshocton County engaged in farming. He reported that in 11 years of marriage his wife had borne 7 children, all of whom were living. In April 1910, Adam Bodine, now widowed, lived in Hardeman County, Texas with 8 of his children--William J. 20, Lizzie 17, Willie 15, Ethel 12, Chester 12, Gracie 9, Mable 7, James T. 5. In Jan 1920, Adam Bodine, now remarried, lived in El Dorado, Jackson County, Oklahoma and in April 1930, he lived in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas, now widowed again. His brother, James Bodine lived with him.

But, although the 1930 census reported he was widowed, he was not. Adam and Clara divorced shortly after their daughter was born and Clara married as her 3rd husband, Henry Gibson Casey (1885-1953), with whom she was living in 1930 in Hill County, Texas and in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas in 1940.

From: Journal-Advance (Gentry, Ark.) of 18 Oct 1907.
Adam Bodine was among our callers Monday and had some papers sent to his relatives living in Ohio, who think of coming here to live. Mr. Bodine and family came here about three weeks ago and he will run the farm for his brother, J. W., and the latter will give his time to painting and paper hanging.
