He married his cousin the first time. Both times he was married, he used the name "Verner" Bodine. The name Pamela Ann (Bodine) Banks gave for him was also "Verner."

Verner and Burran 'Bertie' Bodine were buried in Bodine Cemetery, Brown's Valley, Marshall County. In 1930, Verner and Mary Bodine and Mary's 2 children from her previous Kirkland marriage, were living at Warrenton, Marshall County where Vernon engaged in farming. Burran (Moon) Bodine was the daughter of William Henry and Lydia (Bodine) Moon. Mary Bodine married 24 Sept 1947 in Marshall County, her 3rd husband, James T. Causey (died 27 July 1959).
